Our story
Stefania and Francesco
For Stefania and Francesco, horses were never a hobby that started by chance: they've been part of daily life for as long as they can remember, well before turning into a job. They grew up around stables and trails, getting to know these animals step by step, until it became a shared family way of living.
When their daughters came along, that same passion naturally reached them too: the first guided rides holding a steady hand, fear turning into curiosity, confidence building one horse at a time. A passion passed down without needing many words.
Dolomiti a Cavallo was born in 2026 out of this family history: Stefania and Francesco decided to share with others what has always been part of their everyday life, opening up the trails and villages they know best to visitors, at a different pace than we're used to.
The rides cross Pietrapertosa and Castelmezzano, set among the rock formations of the Lucanian Dolomites, with stone alleys and viewpoints reachable only on foot or on horseback. Further on, the woods of Accettura and Cirigliano bring a quieter landscape, where the Basilicata countryside takes over.
This isn't meant to be just a sightseeing trip: it's a way to get to know a lesser-known side of Basilicata, one you only notice by slowing down and following people who live these places every day. A family project that's now open to anyone curious to try the same experience, whether it's their first time in the saddle or not.

Experience
Four villages, one ride
Each ride crosses one or more villages of the Lucanian Dolomites, picked based on your package and riding experience.
Pietrapertosa
The highest village in Basilicata, perched on the rock: best seen from horseback, taking your time to look up.
Castelmezzano
Stone spires and trails that climb between the houses: Castelmezzano is best explored at a horse's pace.
Accettura
Dense woods and traditions handed down for generations: in Accettura, the horse sets the pace, not the clock.
Cirigliano
The smallest municipality in Basilicata, all quiet and green: best crossed slowly, in the saddle.
Activities
A ride tailored to you
The terrain you ride through keeps changing: open hillsides, oak woods, pine groves, scenic stretches and a few streams to cross. We offer rides from half an hour to full days, as well as multi-day treks, designed to suit different experience levels and however much time you want to spend exploring the area. For a more immersive experience, you can choose routes with stops for sunrise or sunset and a chance to spot local wildlife.
Every group is guided by Stefania and Francesco, ENGEA-certified instructors, who tailor each route to the participants' level and accompany every ride following the necessary safety procedures.
